Kraft paper on a business card: what it communicates

Kraft paper communicates authenticity, sustainability, and a tactile connection to the raw material. It signals that your brand values substance over surface polish.

What kraft paper business cards feel like

We print kraft paper business cards on 335gsm stock. This is a natural, uncoated stock. Unlike coated Art Card, which has a smooth layer that reflects light, Kraft has a visible pulp texture. You can see the fibres. You can feel them.

When ink hits this surface, it is absorbed rather than sitting on top. The result is a matte, natural finish. It does not look glossy. It looks like paper.

What the recipient feels

Holding a Kraft card feels different from holding a standard coated card. It is warmer to the touch. The texture provides a sensory cue that the object is organic. For many recipients, this triggers an association with eco-consciousness or artisanal quality.

This perception is powerful. It happens before the recipient reads a single word on the card. The material does the first round of branding.

Design and tier

A kraft paper business card is a premium stock. Simple printing on it already reads as premium because of the material’s rarity and texture. However, the tier of the final card depends on the overall outcome.

  • Material: 335gsm Kraft Card provides the base premium feel.
  • Finishing: The stock is supplied uncoated. Foil stamping works on it, and blind deboss picks up the fibre. Lamination is not part of the standard product.
  • Creativity: This is the dominant factor. A poorly designed Kraft card still looks like a plain brown card. A well-designed Kraft card, perhaps with blind debossing or strategic ink placement, reaches the Signature tier.

The texture allows for interesting design choices. Ink can be used to highlight the texture or let the natural brown show through. The design must respect the material’s natural character.

When it works

Kraft suits brands that want to project honesty, craft, or environmental responsibility. It is a strong choice for creative studios, food and beverage brands, or businesses that want to stand out from the sea of white, glossy, coated cards.

It is not a “cheap” alternative. It is a specific material choice with a specific message. If your brand message is high-tech, sleek, or corporate-minimal, Kraft may not be the right voice. If your message is human, grounded, or artisanal, it is a strong match.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kraft paper the same as recycled paper?

Not necessarily. Kraft is a type of paper made from wood pulp that is often unbleached. While it is often associated with recycling, the 335gsm Kraft Card stock we use is a specific premium natural card. It is defined by its texture and colour, not just its origin.

Can I use foil stamping on Kraft?

Yes. Foil stamping works well on uncoated stocks like Kraft because the texture allows the foil to adhere cleanly. It adds a metallic contrast to the matte, brown surface, which can create a striking premium effect.

Do kraft paper business cards fade over time?

Like all paper, it is subject to light and humidity. However, because it is uncoated, it ages in a way that many find characterful rather than damaged. It remains a stable, durable stock for business cards.
