Cotton mix paper: the texture you can feel

A cotton business card, like our 360gsm Natural White Card, has a visible fibre structure that you can feel under your fingertips. It is not a smooth, plastic-like surface; it is a natural pulp that offers genuine tactile depth.

What a cotton business card is made of

Most standard business cards use coated art card or plain uncoated wood-pulp paper. These stocks have a uniform surface. A cotton business card is different. It is made by blending cotton fibres with other paper fibres.

The cotton component creates a distinct texture. When you run your thumb across the card, you feel a slight roughness and a dry, organic grip. It does not feel slick. It feels like high-quality stationery or a fine notepad.

Why the texture matters

In a standard tier, the focus is often on colour vibrancy. Coated papers reflect light and make inks pop. But in the premium tier, the material itself is a key part of the design.

A cotton business card is uncoated. This means ink is absorbed into the fibres rather than sitting on top. The result is a dry, matte finish that looks natural. The texture adds a layer of physical presence that a smooth card cannot replicate. It signals that the card is a crafted object, not just a printed label.

The tier effect

A simple black print on 360gsm cotton mix paper already reads as premium. The weight and the texture do the heavy lifting. You do not need complex finishing to make it feel substantial.

However, creativity amplifies this effect. If you add a blind deboss or a custom die-cut shape, the cotton texture interacts with these techniques. The fibres compress differently than a smooth coated sheet. This creates a deeper, more organic impression. The rarity of the material—since over 95% of cards use standard coated stock—multiplies the impact of any design choice.

Handling and durability

Cotton mix paper is robust. It holds its shape well and does not bend easily. Because it is uncoated, it does not attract fingerprints or smudges the way a glossy laminated card might. It maintains its matte appearance over time.

It is a material that rewards close inspection. In a meeting, the recipient often holds the card for a few seconds longer when the texture is distinct. That pause is where the premium feel is established.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cotton business card heavier than standard art card?

Our 360gsm Natural White Card is 360gsm, which is the same weight as our 360gsm Art Card. The difference is in the material composition, not the weight.

Does cotton mix paper accept lamination?

Cotton mix paper is uncoated and designed to show its natural texture. Lamination would cover this texture. We typically present this stock without lamination to preserve the tactile experience of the fibres.

Can I use cotton mix paper for standard, low-cost cards?

While you can, it is a premium material. Using it for a simple, unadorned card is a valid choice, but it is often more impactful when paired with design elements that highlight its texture, such as minimal typography or blind embossing.
